Course Overview
Competency Modelling is a Human Resource Management practice that standardises and integrates all HR activities. By performing an in-depth analysis of various organisational and individual factors, and building on a well-established methodology, robust competency frameworks are created, enabling organisations to build resilient and sustainable HR structures. Competencies also empower employees to perform successfully in their roles and contribute to the achievement of business objectives.

Course Objectives
- Plan and integrate CBIs into talent acquisition and management practices.
- Conduct CBIs in accordance with international best practices.
- Evaluate candidates fairly and consistently using the ORCE approach.
Module 1: Competency Modelling Foundation
- Introduction to the concept of competencies and how they are applied.
- The Evolution of Competencies.
- Competency-Based HRM Concepts.
- Planning Frameworks & Pre-Project Considerations.
- Competency Orientation, Structural Elements, and Competency Dictionaries.
Module 2: Competency Modelling Advanced
- Understanding different data collection methods and identifying competency gaps.
- Selecting relevant competencies and defining behavioural indicators.
- Creating job families and using job profiles in competency modelling.
- Learning the Riverwaves EDVI Methodology:
- Explore: Gathering organisational & individual data.
- Develop: Defining competencies, behavioural indicators & proficiency levels.
- Validate: Ensuring model reliability and comprehensiveness.
- Integrate: Aligning competencies with HR processes (Recruitment, Performance Management, Succession Planning, Career Development, L&D).
Module 3: Certification Assignment
Upon completion of the Advanced Module, learners are eligible for the Certification Assignment. This consists of an individual study case designed to assess proficiency in Competency Modelling Design.
- Evaluation Process:
- Knowledge Test (Multiple Choice Questions): 45 minutes.
- Certification Assignment: Case study assessment, submitted within one month of course completion.
- Retesting is allowed if required.
Module 4: Competency Modelling Skills Building Day
- Reinforcing knowledge through practical application.
- Hands-on case study assignments.
- Group discussions and peer learning.
- Reviewing assessment results and practical exercises to refine skills.

- 2. COMPETENCY MODELING ADVANCED – 3 days, in-class
- 3. CERTIFICATION ASSIGNMENT – 1 day, individual study
- 4. COMPETENCY MODELING SKILLS BUILDING DAY – 1 day, in-class
The certification process includes several activities, divided between in-class and individual study.

- Retesting: allowed
Individual Study | Certification Assignment
- Upon successful completion of the course, participants are provided with the digital “Certification Package” including a realistic case study and detailed assignment requirements.
- Assignments are to be submitted for evaluation and grading purposes within 1 month of the course completion date.
