When it comes to working from home, our different lifestyles and preferences can lead to a multitude of challenges. Working from Home employees, across the world, agree that one major downside of this new work approach is about distractions and the impact of these distraction on the quality and volume of work that actually gets done. You might find yourself getting dragged in all sort of unimportant virtual meetings or even small tasks around the house only to discover later one that is already 6 pm.

On the other hand, there are also success stories, from people find working from home an extremely efficient approach if managed right.  Here are five time tracking tips to help you make the most of your workday.

  1. Start with a To-Do List
Start the day by writing down your To-Do List. Have an idea of what you want to accomplish each day to make sure you stay focused. This will set the tone for the entire day. Include how long you think each task will take. Follow your plan and cross the task when it is finished

  2. Keep track of time
There are two types of time trackers: manual and automatic. With manual ones, you have to track the time you've worked and start/stop the timer yourself manually, while with the automatic, you just install the app and it runs in the background.
This helps you learn how much time you’ve spent on various tasks and improve the way you allocate your time in the future.

  3. Set Tasks with Deadlines
Assign and follow up on tasks according to predefined deadlines. So that you and everyone in your team could stay on top of priorities and work assignments, increasing your overall productivity.

  4. Stay Focused
This is one of the biggest downfalls of working from home. Stay away from personal tasks! Before starting working on something, just think if you would complete such a task if you were to work from the office. If the answer is no, better not start. Those who mastered the art of working from home, attribute their success to this tip – treating working for home as if they are working from the office!
As we are only human and, let’s face it, we do work from the comfort of our home, so automatically a lot of personal tasks come to our minds, on hourly basis, well, write them down and work on them after you’ve completed your work objectives for the day.

  5. Avoid procrastination
Prioritize your tasks, do not get distracted and do not use your snooze button. Stick to your predefined schedule and get the work done on time. You’re not the only one facing these challenges. People everywhere share the same thoughts. So be aware of your own pitfalls, striving to continuously understand more about how you spend your time, what keeps you motivated and what distracts you.
